About ESG Rating Providers (ERP) Guidelines by SEBI
Companies that are pursuing sustainability or ESG as part of their regular operations, are also looking to benchmark themselves against established criteria. The purpose of this is to know their own position on the journey and to build plans to address any shortcomings, and eventually to build maturity in their business.
In India, SEBI has released a notification in May 2024 with details of India-specific ERP (ESG Rating Providers) guidelines. The definition of "ESG Ratings" is provided under CRA Regulation 28B (1)(b).
ESG Ratings are defined as rating and scoring products of all kinds, including rule-based and algorithmic ratings that are determined according to a stated methodology and those that require the use of judgement or discretion. The same is in alignment with the principles outlined in International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO’s) Report on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Ratings and Data Products Providers.

Are you wondering if this is meant for you?
ESG rating or score is a measure of a company’s exposure to the long-term ESG risks. Despite the fact that investors are depending more and more on ESG ratings to assess a company's performance on ESG problems and to identify ESG-related risks, the existing rating systems are unreliable due to the lack of transparency and inconsistency in rating methodologies.
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) encouraged individual countries to establish a worldwide reporting baseline for investor-oriented ESG rating systems in order to solve these shortcomings.
If you are a company staff working on BRSR reports or responsible for ESG Communication or working as ESG Managers and consultants, ESG and Sustainability Assessors and Internal audit teams, this workshop is for you.
This workshop will help you understand India's unique approach to ESG ratings and demystify the Master Circular provided by SEBI.
