What is EcoVadis ?
EcoVadis is a platform that provides sustainability ratings for companies across global supply chains. It evaluates companies based on their environmental, social, and ethical practices using a comprehensive scoring system.
EcoVadis focuses on assessing a company's policies, actions, and outcomes in areas such as environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Many companies use EcoVadis ratings to assess the sustainability of their suppliers and partners.
What is CDP ?
Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
CDP is a global non-profit organization that runs a disclosure system for companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. CDP collects and evaluates data on corporate environmental practices, particularly focusing on issues like climate change, water usage, and deforestation. It helps companies measure, disclose, and reduce their environmental footprints.
CDP's ratings and reports are widely used by investors, governments, and businesses to understand how companies are managing environmental risks and opportunities.
Both EcoVadis and CDP are prominent organizations dedicated to promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility in business practices. They provide frameworks for assessing and improving companies' environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
While both serve as valuable tools for organizations committed to sustainability, they differ in their approaches and areas of focus.
CDP and EcoVadis
Overlaps and Integration with Other Frameworks
The data you gather for CDP and EcoVadis reporting doesn’t just sit in a silo - it lays the groundwork for aligning with almost every major mandatory and voluntary sustainability reporting framework.
CDP - Built for Interoperability
CDP is designed to work seamlessly with other global frameworks.
Reporting through CDP streamlines your environmental disclosures, especially when aligning with the following major standards:
TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures): Since 2018, CDP has aligned over 25 of its questions with TCFD, making it the most TCFD-aligned environmental reporting system.
TNFD (Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures): In 2024, CDP incorporated TNFD’s guidance into its biodiversity questionnaire, enabling nature-related risk reporting.
ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board): Following the release of the ISSB’s climate-related disclosure standards in 2023, CDP integrated IFRS S2 into its questionnaire in 2024. CDP now acts as a key channel for ISSB-aligned reporting.
SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative): CDP actively promotes science-based targets. It includes specific questions on SBTi alignment and recognizes companies that commit to credible decarbonization pathways.
GRI (Global Reporting Initiative): CDP works closely with GRI to ensure consistency across disclosures and minimize duplication of efforts.
ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards): As part of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), ESRS compliance is essential. CDP has collaborated with EFRAG to map ESRS data points to CDP’s questionnaire, enhancing interoperability.
EcoVadis- Valuable Contribution to Broader Disclosures
While EcoVadis primarily focuses on sustainability performance from a supplier and CSR perspective, the information gathered through its assessments also supports alignment with major frameworks particularly in areas related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) themes.
Though it may not be as directly integrated as CDP, EcoVadis data can complement disclosures under CSRD, GRI, and other reporting mechanisms.
